Lingo Review

Lingo is a Solid Provider and Offers the Best Plan for Frequent International Callers

Lingo is a very good all-around value. You can pay as little as $4.95 for the first month on any of their plans. Their unlimited U.S. and Canada plan costs $19.95/mo - a good value - but for only $4 more ($23.95/mo), you can get unlimited calling to anyone in not only the U.S. and Canada but also anyone in the top 30 most called international destinations. They are the only leading provider who offers a very affordable plan with unlimited calling to 100 top countries in Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and some Asian countries.

Even if you never call internationally, Lingo's price, functionality and reliability make a great choice for VoIP service. Their call quality and service reliability is excellent. On top of this, Overall, Lingo is a good choice due to their excellent value, range of features, and highly reliable quality service.

Lingo Review:

I had been a loyal, long time customer of Lingo - I had signed up with them in December 2004 and had no problems with them until last year. Based on their advertisements, I signed up for Lingo\'s World Max unlimited calling. I paid a $10 fee to make the plan change, which became active towards the end of October 2009. We make calls to India, predominantly to a few numbers. We were happily using the service when on Dec 16 my service stopped working. This being the only landline, my 5 month old infant and mother in law at home, we were pretty flabbergasted about the reason. When I called Lingo, I was told that they had sent an email 10 days ago (which had gone to my spam folder) about the fact that my usage was excessive and beyond the \"normal\" residential usage. I asked the guy to tell me how much was \"normal\" and what was the meaning of \"Unlimited\". He kept on blabbering about \"average use\", \"expected use\" etc. etc. and was never able to answer anything specifically. When I asked to speak to the manager, he said the manager was busy on another call. Finally, as I was traveling to India that evening, I asked what the options were - and he said that I will have to switch back to the previous plan (which did not have India free) - I could not restart on Unlimited World Max plan. It was almost that I was being punished for going over the limit of the \"unlimited\" plan. I asked him to switch the plan and restore the service (while at Chicago airport, waiting to board the flight). The next thing I did was to order Vonage right there, before boarding. Once Vonage was setup, they took almost 6 days for number transfer (happened on Jan 6, 2010). While looking up my credit card statements, I was appalled to see Lingo charges continuing on the card. I called them up to ask what the charges were for and was told that since I had not canceled the service, those were month charges for Jan and Feb. I asked the rep her name, her agent id and asked her to tell me what service did Lingo exactly provide in Jan and Feb to me, for which they charged my credit card. She said that even though I did not use the service, as per the terms and condition, as the account was still active, they had billed me. I corrected her saying that it was not a question of me \"not using the service\" - \"there was no service available to me from Lingo\" as the number had already been ported out of Lingo and I did not have any other number on the account. So if Lingo decides to bill me, it is charging for nothing and I am going to take this further - to the courts if required. She then said that she will request a credit for the two months that they charged me without service. I will wait to see if it actually occurs.

Lingo Review:

Please find another. I've had Lingo for 6 years and the first 3 years were fine. The past 3 years have not been good. Problems every 2 or 4 months. I've had an issue with one of their voice mail call back features for over a year now and it's been difficult to communicate with Tech. Support. They understand American English and it's very very frustrating at times. They speak differently which can be interesting except that they just "yes" you and lie to you without any reservation or remorse. I've spent way too much time trying to get through to them and there have been frequent outages, dropped calls, problem calls where you can't hear the other party or the other party can't hear you. I reset my device at least once a month now. The taxes and surchages are different each month unlike other Voip providers. I could go on but instead I'm switching to another Voip. I've had it! They have great features when they work but I'm willing to give 2 of them up (distinctive ring for each number and call back from voice mail by pressing a number) since one of them doesn't work at all anymore and the customer service is abysmal. The other voip I'm switching to has other features Lingo doesn't have and most importantly "consistently reliable service and great tech. support" according to the reviews. Instead of calling sales, I called tech. support to find out how they handle calls. I'm swithching to Phone Power but I'm not endorsing them by any means until I've had some long term experience with them.

Lingo Review:

Lingo have recently changed their customer service set up. Early 2009 their customer service was responsive and capable. Since November 2009 they have been in a mess. They never answer their service line and instead prefer to send boiler plate responses by email. Piss poor....and I'm changing to a new provider.

Lingo Review:

Before I ordered Lingo, they offered me UNLIMITED international calls to 100 countries. They didn't even mentioned that I can't call more than 4999 minutes and 6 unique numbers. My question is if this is unlimited than why they will restrict us by the minutes. They said it's a "fair Usage Policy of Lingo." Lingo is not the only one offers unlimited plans, my cell phone and even my other VOIP phone has unlimited plan. I called their customer service about the fair use policy. Their main concern is whether you are using the phone service for commercial use or residential use and you are not reselling this service to third party. This is a fraud company and I think planning to going out of business soon. We should stop this fraud. Please file a complaint to FCC & FTC. They finally suspend my account yesterday becaus I used 661 minutes. I am wondering they are still in the business and will continue.

Lingo Review:

I used VOIP telephony mainly for intenational calls. After using 5 yers with Vonage, Lingo offered a better feature related to international calls. I ordered (10/10/09) and got equipments (10/14/09). After using 2/3 weeks I got an e-mal said I am making more international calls, where I reduced International call less then Vonage. At 12/16/09 they cancelled my service due to high call usage; although I took their service due to unlimited international calling plan! Their Customer service is a joke. The email said to contact a number but after leaving 20/30 messages no one called back. finally after a week i got some one who without giving any option told me why my account was susspended. and when I asked them to cancel my account they jumped on it and canceled it and told me if i don't mail them the modem they will charge me $100. I feel like this company is a fraud one and don't know how they can do business in usa. I talked with 100 Lingo customer who got the same treatment. some where told too much usesage and some were told they are calling too many places!!!. Please do not take this service what ever they tell you or offer you. they lie right away. they emailed me saying i am getting unlimited call and there are no caps as I tried to cancel it within 1st month. And they never answer. if you are trying to take this service then call them and see how long it takes to get to the sales people. now think how long it will take you to get to technical or people or some one else when you need them... stay away from them (BTW in the mean time i lost my number which i had for 10 years)

I used VOIP telephony mainly for intenational calls. After using 3 yers with Vonage, Lingo offered a better feature related to international calls. I ordered (11/8/09) and got equipments (11/24/09). After using 2 weeks I got an e-mal said I am making more international calls, where I reduced International call less then Vonage. At 12/16/09 they cancelled my service due to high call usage; although I took their service due to unlimited international calling plan! It was a short time with lingo and I had to suffer the issue- keep my phone number due provider change. If there is an International calling plan involved-- I say don't select lingo...

I have used lingo since 2004. There were a few hickup early on with chopy connections and dropped lines. In the recent years service has improved remarkably. Customer service has been very good as well, with cooperative and responsive agents.
